Probably Stolen Chemist Guide: Can You Play It Yet?

Chemist is a 1.0 launch start that is locked in the current Demo. What is confirmed and how to prepare.

Water & Farming · Checked October 25, 2026 · 4 min read

You cannot fully play the Chemist yet. Chemist is one of the nine starting scenarios announced for Probably Stolen version 1.0, which is planned for October 28, 2026. Current Demo references report that the Chemist start is locked. Chemical items or leftover recipe text in the Demo do not prove the profession works there, so the best preparation now is learning the shared production habits: test inputs, check output quality and price a small batch before scaling.

What the developer has confirmed

The developer's October 21 preview lists Chemist among the starting scenarios available in 1.0. Its description is short: profitable chemicals, closely guarded recipes, and chemistry lab equipment. That is the full official description at the time of writing.

The same preview confirms nine launch starts and four difficulty options. Chemist sits alongside Hydroponic Farmer and Gunsmith as one of the specialist starts that are new to 1.0.

Is Chemist playable in the Demo?

A version-tagged community reference reports that the Chemist entry route is locked in the Demo. It also warns that obsolete Evaporator text remains in the game's resources. That reference comes from inspecting game files, not from a live play session.

So the Demo is not a reliable place to learn the Chemist. Treat any Demo-based chemistry guide with caution, and check the start-selection screen in your own build.

Chemistry content you may see now

Some chemistry-related items and machines exist in the Demo. The screenshot on this page, from the official store, shows panels such as a Chem Finisher, Heating Plate and Evaporator. Seeing those machines does not mean a complete Chemist chain is available.

Community pages offer background on chemical supplies, processing and output quality. Their production claims were not enough to establish a playable current-build chain. We keep only the broad idea: supplies, processing and the quality of the output are separate stages.

Why we do not publish recipes yet

No complete current-build chemical recipe was independently confirmed in our research. Exact recipe temperatures, yields and unlock purchases also remain unverified. Publishing a step-by-step synthesis now would mean guessing.

The developer describes Chemist recipes as closely guarded, which suggests discovery is part of the profession. We will document recipes once they can be tested in the release build.

How to prepare before launch

Learn production habits on systems you can play today. Water is the closest match: you test inputs, treat problems, re-test and label by measured quality. The water guide teaches that loop.

Get comfortable pricing a batch against its inputs. A chemical product can look profitable on its sale value and still lose money once equipment, power and supplies are counted. Our money and rent guide covers that calculation.

A checklist for the release build

When 1.0 is out, verify four things in the same build before scaling up. First, confirm the active recipe. Second, check which equipment is available to a Chemist at the start.

Third, confirm the input composition the recipe needs. Fourth, check the output purity customers require. Record the cost of a small test batch before you commit money to a larger one.

Risk and reputation

The developer pitches Chemist as profitable, and chemicals in a cyberpunk market carry obvious risk. The game tracks reputation with groups such as Security and the Black Market. How Chemist products interact with those tracks is not documented yet.

Update 049 fixed a bug where the faction of a returning chemical feedback client was not transferred correctly. That suggests chemical clients are tied to factions, but the details need release-build testing. See the station factions guide.

Chemist versus other starts

For a first run, the developer recommends Apprentice. Chemist is a specialist start, so it makes more sense once you understand trading and rent. Our tier list compares starts by goal.

If you like production chains, Water Merchant and Aquafarmer let you practise testing and quality management. Both have more confirmed information today.

About chemistry videos

The video below comes from a Rock Bottom challenge run with self-imposed restrictions. Its chemistry title does not prove that the locked Chemist profession or an old production chain works in the current Demo. Watch it for context, not instructions.

We did not find a verified Chemist walkthrough for the release build, which is not out yet. We will add one when it exists.

Other specialist starts coming in 1.0

Chemist is one of three specialist starts new to 1.0, alongside Hydroponic Farmer and Gunsmith. The developer describes Hydroponic Farmer as growing crops in limited space, ending with genetically modified breeds people pay a fortune for. Gunsmith starts with a Class 1 weapon permit and a stock of firearms, with high margins and security inspections.

None of these are verified as playable in the current Demo. If you are choosing a specialist start for launch day, read each description and pick the system you most want to learn.
