Plasma Cartridge Condition in the Probably Stolen Demo

Appraise plasma cartridges from a base of 100 plus condition, color and brand modifiers, with a minimum of 30.

Items & Threats · Checked October 25, 2026 · 5 min read

To appraise a plasma cartridge in the Probably Stolen Demo, start from a base of 100, not the generic catalogue price. Then add the condition modifier, the color modifier and, only if the manufacturer qualifies, a brand bonus. The result cannot go below 30. Community references agree on the condition values: light wear −15, heavy wear −30, cracked −50, exposed screws −10 and reinforced +20.

Where these numbers come from

The developer has not published an official cartridge table. The official store only confirms that item appraisal is a core system. The values on this page come from two community references that independently describe the same base-plus-modifiers approach.

Treat them as corroborated community data rather than official figures. Always match the cartridge against the in-game manual before applying any modifier.

The appraisal formula

The formula is simple: 100, plus the condition modifier, plus the color modifier, plus a qualifying manufacturer bonus. If the total falls below 30, the value is 30. That floor stops a badly damaged cartridge from becoming worthless.

The base is the important part. A catalogue price is not the appraisal base. Starting from the wrong number throws off every step after it.

Condition modifiers

Community references list these condition adjustments.

ConditionModifier
Light wear−15
Heavy wear−30
Cracked−50
Exposed screws−10
Reinforced+20

Light and heavy wear are alternative states. A surface is either lightly or heavily worn, so do not deduct both for the same wear.

Color grade

Color contributes its own modifier. A low grade subtracts 50, a standard grade adds nothing, and a high grade adds 50. Check the color against the manual's examples rather than judging it by eye alone.

Color can swing the value as much as a crack. A high-grade color on a worn cartridge may still appraise well. Work through each factor separately.

Manufacturer bonus

The brand bonus is conditional. It applies only when the manufacturer qualifies under the manual's rules. A logo that looks valuable is not enough on its own.

Check the eligibility requirements before adding a bonus. Community references stress this step because it is the easiest one to get wrong.

A worked example

Take a cartridge with light wear, standard color and no qualifying brand. Start at 100, subtract 15 for light wear, and add 0 for standard color. The appraisal is 85.

Now take a cracked cartridge with low-grade color. 100 minus 50 for the crack, minus 50 for low color, gives 0. The floor applies, so the appraisal is 30.

Identifying condition visually

Use the actual manual images to decide the condition. A vague screenshot is not enough to tell light wear from heavy wear. Inspect with the magnifier and compare against the reference drawings.

The Fruit Newt video below focuses specifically on plasma wear and is the best visual lead we found. Update 049 also fixed a bug where pressing both mouse buttons while dragging the inspection magnifier desynced the effect. Update if your magnifier behaves oddly.

Using appraisal tools

Some players use external cheat sheets, including the one promoted in the second video below. These can speed up appraisal. They are not independent proof that every value is correct.

Cross-check any tool against the in-game manual. If a tool and the manual disagree, the manual in your build wins.

Appraisal customers

Some customers come in only for an appraisal. Update 049 changed them so they leave automatically once their business is done. That keeps your counter moving.

Accurate appraisals protect your profit when you buy, too. Overpaying for a cracked cartridge is a common early mistake. See the money and rent guide for why that matters.

Demo versus 1.0

These values describe the Demo as documented by community references. The developer's 1.0 preview lists new appraisal items among post-launch plans. Existing items may also be rebalanced.

Recheck the formula after the October 28 release. We will update this page if the values change.

More worked examples

These examples use made-up cartridges to show how the formula combines. Take one with heavy wear, exposed screws and high-grade color. 100 minus 30, minus 10, plus 50 gives 110.

Now a reinforced cartridge with standard color and a qualifying manufacturer. Start at 100 and add 20 for reinforcement and 0 for color. The brand bonus amount was not verified in our research, so take it from your in-game manual.

Common appraisal mistakes

The most common mistake is starting from the catalogue price instead of 100. The second is deducting both light and heavy wear for the same surface. The third is adding a brand bonus because a logo looks premium.

Each of these skews the result in a predictable direction. Work through the formula in the same order every time. Consistency is what makes appraisal fast.

Buying versus selling

Appraisal matters on both sides of the counter. When a customer sells you a cartridge, an accurate appraisal stops you overpaying. When you sell, it tells you what a fair price is.

Bargaining then moves the final price. Update 049 adjusted how bargaining affects customer budgets, so the appraisal is your anchor, not your final number. See the money and rent guide.

Common questions

What is the base value of a plasma cartridge? Community references use 100 as the appraisal base, with a minimum result of 30.

Do light and heavy wear stack? No. They are alternative wear states, so apply only the one that matches.

How much does color matter? Low grade is −50, standard is 0 and high grade is +50.

Is there an official cartridge table? No official numeric table was found. These values are corroborated community references.

Quick checklist

Match the cartridge to the manual first. Start from 100. Apply the condition modifiers that fit what you see, counting light and heavy wear as alternatives.

Add the color modifier. Add the brand bonus only if the manufacturer qualifies. If the total is below 30, use 30.
